I am a 35 year old mom of 2 (11 month old, 10 year old), who lives with my hubs in Northern Ontario. We live next to (and participate in) my family's cow-calf beef operation. We also raise our own meat birds, as well as layer hens. We also hunt, with wild game making up a significant portion of our meat storage (bear, moose, deer, grouse), in addition to keeping a good stock of fish in the freezer (pike, ling, walleye).
On our homestead, we have 28 acres, lots of it treed with our lawn slowly converting to food creation! We have apple trees, haskaps, as well as a big ole garden. Last fall we built a cold frame greenhouse to extend our growing season (Zone 2B!).
New things for this year include:
- making our own fermented hot sauces
- working on canning more meat products for winter storage (we have a pressure canner!)
- reworking our internal storage room to facilitate better food storage (with less spoilage!)
- trying to grow our first cabbages, brussels sprouts
